Running A Tournament
Running Your Tournament
This guide covers the steps for running your tournament on the day, from setting up boards and checking in players to getting the tournament underway, as well as changing the format for later rounds.
Board Setup
There are 2 ways to set up your tablets, depending on the assigned venue: Managed or Non-Managed.
Managed Venues
From the Tournament Homepage, go to the Tournament menu and select âBoardsâ. This will display a list of the Kiosks available at the venue. Select the boards you want to use and hit âAssign Boardâ. The kiosk will then switch from the default Kiosk view to display a board number and the Tournament name. For more information about setting up a Managed Venue - Click Here.
Non-Managed Venue
Each tablet needs to display Kiosk.Dartsatlas.com. Select the âControl Boardâ option then âTournamentâ.
A QR code will appear. Using a phone, logged in as a Tournament Director, scan the QR code with the camera.
Select your Tournament & enter the board number then hit âCreate Boardâ.
The tablet will now display this board number and Tournament name & is ready to go.
Repeat this process for all your match boards.
Check-In Players
As your players arrive, theyâll need to make themselves known to you so you can enter them into the tournament.
From the Tournament Homepage, hit the menu button (top right) and select Check-In. There will be a list of all registered players. You have the option to âCheck-Inâ a player once theyâve arrived or âDenyâ someone if theyâre no longer taking part in the tournament.
Either choice can be undone by hitting reset.
All players need to either be checked in or denied to progress to the next step.
Checkout
Once all your players have arrived and are checked in, you can now close the registration stage & start your competition.
From the Tournament Homepage, hit the menu button (top right) and select Checkout.
This is the final chance to ensure everyone is checked in correctly & everyone is in the draw.
Scroll to the bottom. The relevant Tournament Fees will be displayed here.
Hit âComplete Checkoutâ and youâll be taken to a payment provider to process this payment. If youâre using Online Platform Payments, this step is skipped. For more details on this click here.
Starting Your Tournament
Your Tournament Homepage will now look slightly different and will depend on your format.
Round Robin
You have two options: fully automated or manual.
If your tournament is either four or eight groups with either one, two or four players from each group progressing to the knockouts, you can use the fully automated feature. If your format doesnât fit this, donât worry - there are just a couple of extra steps you need to take.
Automated
On the tournament homepage, in the Tournament Automation section, there are three options.
First, how many groups? Select four or eight.
Then, how many from each group progress to the knockout stages? Select one, two or four.
Finally, youâll need to define the match length for the first round of knockout games. The default value will match the group stage match length. Once youâre done, hit Begin Tournament.
The groups and fixtures will be generated and the first matches will be sent to the boards. The next group games will continue to be assigned automatically as and when a match finishes until the group is complete.
Once all the groups are complete, the knockout bracket will automatically be generated and the first games will once again be automatically assigned to the boards.
The structure of the bracket will group boards together - for example, 4 boards with the top 4 progressing creates a Last 16 bracket. Boards 1 and 2 will be grouped with the group winners playing 4th place and 2nd place playing 3rd.
Matches will continue to automatically assign to a board until all matches are complete and you have your winner.
Manual
Click Setup Groups from the tournament homepage.
Enter how many groups you need.
Darts Atlas will then display how many groups contain how many players.
Thereâs also the option to seed the groups if you require. Once youâre happy, click Create Groups.
The groups and fixtures will be automatically generated and the first games will be sent to the boards.
The group games will continue automatically until the group fixtures are complete. Once all the groups are completed, itâs time to create the KO bracket.
Go to Bracket in the admin menu. Here you need to enter how many players (in total) will progress to the knockout stagesâfor example, top 4 from 4 groups = 16 progress.
Now you have an empty bracket. Here you can place players into the positions you need in line with your format.
The final group standings are listed underneath to help. Select the player name from the dropdown (this will display all players regardless of their final position) and then press Add. Once all the players have been added, you can go to Bracket from the tournament menu and view the final bracket.
If thereâs a mistake, you can reset the bracket from the Bracket Admin page. This can be done until a game has started, so ensure the players and positions are correct before beginning the matches.
Once youâre happy everything is correct, you can start assigning the matches to the boards. Go to Boards in the admin menu.
Press Assign Match, choose the game from the dropdown. Repeat this for all your match boards.
If required, you can also assign a marker for each game from this screen.
Once started, matches will continue to automatically assign to a board until all matches are complete and you have your winner.
Knockout
Press Generate Bracket. Here you have an option for seeding the draw if you require it. Otherwise, simply hit Generate. This will automate the draw, create the bracket and assign the first matches to the boards. The first round format will be what you defined as the default during tournament setup.
To amend this for later rounds, go to Matches in the admin menu.
Select the round you wish to change from the dropdown. Then enter the new match length and hit Update.
The next matches will auto-assign to a board when it becomes available, along with a designated marker. This is based on a loserâs mark rule.
Matches will continue to be assigned to boards until the final game is played and you have a winner.
